Review of Usborne Books Direct Sales
I signed up in July two years ago to be an independent consultant. I have been happy with this process.
I was pretty excited to be a part of this company after having been with another company, which I shall not mention, because I am now over the bitterness of having partnered with them.
We love the books at our house, and I have to admit a small part of me joined to get my hands on the introductory kit. You get $125 worth of books for $75. When I signed up, they were running a special for $50. It was a bargain regardless of whether you join at $75 or $50.
At the time, there was and still is NO monthly fee for 6 months, and you can make the cost of the kit up within your first few months with a handful of parties. Oh, and the best part is that there are NO MINIMUMS.
I decided right off to do my first vendor event in Austin, Texas. I was thinking that I would learn the products, and get a few leads so I can do online parties. I sold $500 or more in books in my first vendor events and got close to 100 leads.
The vendor booth fees I signed on for were between $25-$100 for most booths.
I used a small consignment and sold almost all of it. And the best part, I got free books for my son to read. So the perks are great! Sell books and get free books as well as some profit. Beautiful! I don’t know any other company that gives you the these perks!
If you are a consultant and are selling your books at a bargain, you are downgrading the value of these books. And are not very good at selling. The quality is top notch, and are reasonably priced.
Truth be told, my driver for joining was to build my sons library of great books. I really didn’t have a vision for much more than this. Okay… one of my biggest drivers in life is personal growth. Being a part of Usborne has allowed me to grow in more ways than one.
I am fully vested in this business. I will never stop trying or I will die trying. I am proud of Randall White for bringing us Usborne Books and then Kane Miller Books.
All told, this business is not for the faint of heart. This business is for someone that wants to learn how to be in business without the headaches of actually starting a business from scratch. You will have days that you wonder where your next sale will come but if you stick with it you will succeed, and if you have a vision, and are persistent.
You need to work just like any business.
You will stumble and fall. Yet you will grow and learn so much from doing this business. It is so worth it, if only for the lesson in personal development.
Now, I will not say that you will make money overnight. But I have seen what these books do to children. And you will become all squishy and mushy serving children. I love serving children and their parents. I love providing great books.
All told, you can make at least $100 on one party if YOU are trainable and you put in the effort and have the burning desire to succeed! That’s more than a substitute teacher makes after taxes and PERA deduction. UGH!
What can you do to succeed?
Well, you pretty much need to go into this business with the right mindset. DO the home parties. Do the Facebook parties. Do the ZOOM parties. Don’t tell me you don’t have friends with children. Everyone knows someone with children. And these books range from birth to 101. (okay, maybe not 101 but a 40 year old can read the fiction books.) If you don’t enjoy meeting new people, then don’t venture into any sales career! Keep living paycheck to paycheck and keep letting others dictate what your worth. I have discovered that the way to make this work is to be better at serving others than the average book seller.
Doing the parties are fun and hella simple. The parties take 30 minutes.
This is a professional area. You are selling to schools and libraries. Many of the schools and libraries use other companies so you have to be a little more crafty and creative to get the accounts. This area is supplemental. If you think it will be easy to get the school account, think again. You need to think like a lawyer (oh… sorry, I mean think like a sales lady). Many schools use Scholastic and will not readily make the change. It is still a lucrative side thing. Our programs are wonderful and schools are missing out by not using us.
You need to stamina and persistence.
This is another way to share the books and put more books in the hands of children everywhere. You have to search for the good ones and you want to stick to a $25 to $50 range. You also want the events that are promoted well or you may make a lousy sale and not cover the cost.
Regardless of whether you are a school rep or not, you can offer any organization, political campaign, preschool or day care (so long as they are not attached to a accredited school by the state) our fundraisers. We offer excellent programs that will assist in any cause or venture.
Is Usborne Books & More worth it? YES! A hundred times YES! Fortunately, I homeschool and my goal is to fully stock my son with BOOKS! My biggest motivator. I use Usborne Books and Kane Miller books in my homeschool and see the value of book ownership and having the BEST books available for my son to learn and grow from for years to come.
I love Usborne! And my child will grow up to be a UBAM kid.
There is so much training available, the resources are really great. My upline is great and there.
Don’t worry about there being too many people crowding the market. There is always room for more. And the good thing is that most book ladies FAIL because they GIVE UP!
YOU CAN’T FAIL IF YOU DON’T GIVE UP! Success is there for those with a burning desire to succeed and have the faith and positive attitude to see it through. MOST people don’t have faith and are far too negative to make it happen. So would I suggest this to anyone else? YES! Heaven’s YES! Unless you are going to sitting around wishing for things to happen. If you have the tenacity to keep on going. There will be no’s. But there will be Yes’s. And there are a lot more no’s than yes’s but if you keep your eye on the things you want, and off the things you don’t want with a positive mental attitude, you will succeed!
I know you have heard this before but THE BOOKS DO SELL THEMSELVES if only you would share them and find ways to share them, you only have to put on a smile, and serve the children and their parents. So many parents buy the books because their children picked up the books. Children LOVE the books! The books are colorful and bright and easy to touch and feel and ooh… it smells good, too.
So my Review of Usborne Books Direct Sales — I give it 5 Stars *****!!!
And a tiara!
Make the decision and sign up! You won’t regret it!
